Wondering how to get around on Anna Maria Island?

Wondering how to get around on Anna Maria Island?
Let's Talk AMI Transportation!
After you’ve set your vacation destination, and nailed down your accommodations, the next item on your vacation planning to do list is usually transportation! And if you’re planning a trip to Anna Maria Island you’re in luck! Anna Maria Island has so many transportation options that make it one of the easiest destinations to explore! In fact it’s often said to be one of the rare destinations where a rental car simply isn’t needed, if you plan on staying on the island! Many who drive to the island will park their car and not drive it again until its time to leave! Lets go over all of the fantastic ways to get around and explore Anna Maria Island!

So many Golf Carts…. and only 1 Golf Course?
Golf carts are a very common mode of transportation on Anna Maria Island. It’s not unusual to see them parked at the beach, in front of the local pharmacy, restaurant, or even just crusin’ through town! Don’t be fooled though, That is not your Grandpa’s Golf cart. This is the style and sensation of island transportation! The Golf Carts you see on Anna Maria Island are actually street legal, electric LSVs! These Golf carts provide the ultimate in flexibility and freedom to explore Anna Maria Island’s 7 Miles of paradise! I’m a big fan of the 8 passenger Golf Carts! Lots of room for family and friends and everything else you could want to haul down to the beach! Check out my favorite Island Golf Carts from Fun and More Rentals Here!

The Island Trolley

The Island Trolley runs the span of the island and offers free transportation. The island is dotted with stops and the trolley arrives approximate every twenty minutes. The Trolley runs each day from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM. Check out the Trolley map here!

The Island Beach Monkeys
The island beach monkeys offer rides all over the island at no charge, they work for tips! They have a fleet of their own Golf Carts, and a couple of funky surfer themed short buses. They are always best option for a safe ride home when you’ve had a few too many boat drinks at the Tiki bar and you can no longer drive your own Golf Cart home! Check them out here!

Anna Maria Island is very bike friendly, and they are used for transportation as well as recreation. You’ll see them everywhere, in all styles, from styln’ beach cruisers for Men, Women, and Children, to Adult Tricycles and tandem bikes! Bikes can be rented for as little as $5.00 per day on Anna Maria Island at Fun and More Rentals, and your rental bike can even be hooked on to the trolley should you get caught in an afternoon shower!

Getting to Anna Maria Island:
If your driving, you can reach the island by way of two bridges, the Manatee Bridge ( SR 64) or the Cortez Bridge. ( *Hint If you're arriving by way of  Cortez make a stop for lunch or dinner at The Starfish Company! They only accept cash and its nothing fancy, but you will not find fresher fish anywhere!  It’s located in the Cortez fishing village, just before the bridge to Anna Maria Island! You can thank me later!)

Flying In?
The Island is easily accessible from three nearby Airports:

The nearest Airport to Anna Maria Island is the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport (SRQ) located approximately seventeen miles from Anna Maria Island. Ground transportation to the island from SRQ is easy, just grab an Uber, Lyft, or grab one of the diplomat taxis located outside the Airports north exit!

The next nearest Airport is the Tampa/St. Petersburg International Airport (PIE). PIE is located just 45 miles north of Anna Maria Island. Check out SuperShuttle!

Located just a bridge beyond PIE you’ll find the largest of the nearby airports, Tampa International (TPA) is located 53 miles north of Anna Maria Island. Shuttles to the island from this major Airport are plentiful! Try SuperShuttle!

Your Anna Maria Island Vacation is sure to be incredible! There just isn’t another island like it! Everything is at your fingertips here, from rest to adventure, packaged up nicely in an old Florida beach-town feel. On behalf of Anna Maria Island- We can’t wait to welcome you!
